CHARLOTTETOWN – Charlottetown’s Bob Irwin was recently appointed the Prince Edward Island Golf Association’s chief rules official.

Irwin will oversee officiating at provincial tournaments and will promote the development of new rules officials in the province.

Irwin, who has officiated at a number of provincial championships, will also co-ordinate the association’s course rating program.

“We are fortunate to have Bob accept this position,” said Ron MacNeill, association executive director. “He has been a competitive golfer for many years, and has a keen interest in officiating.

“The rules of golf can be challenging for golfers, and it is important for the sport to have someone that understands and promotes them. Golfers at all levels, especially juniors, can benefit from a better understanding of the rules.”
