CHARLOTTETOWN – Three members of the Holland College Hurricanes were awarded All-Canadian status at the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) golf championships on Tuesday night.
Eric Locke and Brett Wilson from the men’s Hurricanes and female player Tariqah Walikraam received the prestigious awards.
The announcement was made at the players’ dinner prior to the start of the CCAA PING national golf championships in Quebec City. The 54-hole event begins on Wednesday, and wraps up on Friday.
Locke, a native of Digby, N.S., was the Hurricanes’ top finisher in last year’s CCAA championship (16th), and finished fifth at the Golf Canada university/college national championships. Locke has won two events this season, including the Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA) championship at Crowbush.
Wilson, who is from Sussex, N.B., is the 2012 ACAA champion and has played well this spring as well. Wilson picked up individual wins in the first two events this fall as well as a third-place finish in the ACAA championship.
Walikraam is a native of Bermuda and is the 2012 and 2013 ACAA individual women’s champion.
Walikraam was also a member of the 2012 Hurricanes that finished with a silver medal, losing by a single stroke in the team competition. She went on to finish in seventh place in the individual championship.
