MILL RIVER – Evangeline was the only school that stood in the way of an eastern P.E.I. clean sweep of the team medals at the P.E.I. School Athletic Association senior golf championships at the Mill River Golf Course on Tuesday.
Evangeline No. One and Evangeline No. Two placed second and third in the A boys’ team standings. Morell, with Ben Miller and Kevin MacLeod in the top three of the individual standings, finished first.
Charlottetown Rural teams placed first and third in AA boys, sandwiching Colonel Gray. Rural No. One’s first overall team had the tournament’s top two golfers – Ryan Legault, 73, and Connor Shea, 76.
Legault’s three-stroke victory equalled the margin Rural No. One had over Colonel Gray in the standings. Actually, four golfers tied for second, with Shea taking silver by retrogression.
Colonel Gray was the only school with enough AA girls to form a team, so they won the team title. Courtney Ward from Bluefield shot a 97 to win the girls’ individual title.
