In King of Clubs Senior Men’s Golf Tour
STANLEY BRIDGE – Mel Bernard of the host Andersons Creek Golf Course had his A-game working for him in the King of Clubs Senior Men's Golf Tour event on Monday.
Bernard shot an even-par on the front nine, with one bogey and one birdie, and he played even better – two birdies and the rest pars – on the back nine en route to shooting a 2-under-par 70.
Jim MacIntyre of Mill River had the next-best score of 74. He too had a solid round with a 1-under-par back nine of 35. Alan Montgomery of Andersons Creek followed MacIntyre closely with a 75.
Super Senior Division
In the Super Senior Division, Franklin Doyle of Belvedere had the top score of 80, with Chick Lenahan of Fox Meadow close behind with an 81. Bill Murphy of Andersons Creek, Mike McCarville of Stanhope and Cliff Goodwin of Andersons Creek all shot rounds of 82.
Ivan Gallant of Andersons Creek posted the best net score of 66. Ken Doucette of Summerside shot the next best net score of 68.
A total of 45 golfers participated in the tour’s 12th event.
Next big event
The next big event for these golfers is the Abegweit Outfitting/PEIGA Match Play, which will be hosted by Glasgow Hills Golf Club on Oct. 5 and 6.
The top 16 Island golfers in the three divisions – amateur, senior and super senior – will be competing at this testing golf course.
The final event of the King of Clubs Tour will be held at the Belvedere Golf Club on Monday, Oct. 7, with a shot gun start at 9 a.m. This event will have a four-man team format.
