On the road against the Charlottetown Privateers
SUMMERSIDE – The unbeaten Summerside Waterwise Bantam Spartans head to Charlottetown to take on the Privateers on Saturday.
The P.E.I. Bantam Tackle Football League contest will get underway at 2 p.m.
Summerside, which takes a 3-0 (won-lost) record into the game against the 0-2 Privateers, has been putting up some points this season, and hopes to continue this against their rivals.
"They dominated us a couple of times last season, and we are hoping to return the favour on Saturday,” said Spartans offensive co-ordinator Paul Power. “It all starts with our offensive line and our skilled players.
"We have scored on every opening drive this season, and want to continue that trend to get that early momentum in the football game."
Defensively, the Spartans’ offence has been bailing out the defence, which struggled with its tackling against Amherst on Saturday.
"We had tackle drill after tackle drill all week in practice, and lets hope it pays dividends against Charlottetown,” said Spartans assistant defensive co-ordinator Jeff MacDonald. "We decided to forget the X’s and O’s this week, and just get back to the fundamentals of tackling and locating the football.”
Summerside is also hoping to get back two starters on defence, linebackers Jansen Gallant and Jake MacNeil, who have missed the last three games due to injuries.
"These two will really improve our defence, especially Jansen, who is a third-year guy, is very aggressive and wants to make contact,” added MacDonald. “Also, he is one of our leaders.
“We will see how they feel before kickoff to see if they play this week or next.”
