Post decisive victory over Dieppe
MONCTON, N.B. – It’s been a long week of football for the Summerside Cox and Palmer Spartans.
The atom team completed a stretch of three straight road games in a week to start the Moncton Minor Football Association season with a 46-0 win over the Dieppe Tiger-Cats at Rocky Stone Field on Sunday afternoon.
"We were without our starting quarterback (Charlie DesRoches), but Finn Turner did a great job leading the offence,” said Spartans assistant coach Paul Walsh. “Our offensive line of Alex Campbell, Cameron Murray and Nathaniel Mueller did an outstanding job of blocking, along with our receivers and backs. That's where football games are won and lost, and we won those one-on-one battles today (Sunday)."
First offensive play
Summerside scored on its first offensive play of the game on a 45-yard run by Charlie Turner, which set the tone and gave the visitors a quick 6-0 lead.
The Spartans scored on all their offensive possessions in the first half as Turner added another 50-yard touchdown run, running back Connor Keough scored on a 25-yard run and full back Parker Williams counted a 10-yard run to give Summerside a comfortable 28-0 lead at halftime.
"If we continue to block and seal the edges like this, we will be in every game this season. The holes were big and our playmakers hit them hard. With our regular quarterback out, our coaching staff decided we would just run the rock today and take our chances." Spartans assistant coach Paul Walsh

Summerside’s defence forced five turnovers and picked up its second shutout of the season. Interceptions by Nick Gunning, Max Chisholm, Parker Gallant and fumble recoveries by Chisholm and Finn Turner didn't allow Dieppe closer than the Spartans’ 20-yard line.
"Running the football and a solid defence is a recipe for success in any league, and we have done that in our first three games," added Walsh.
Two one yard touchdowns runs by Keough and another by Turner in the second half ended the Spartans’ scoring.
Gallant kicked two converts.
Summerside is home at Eric Johnston Field for the next three Sundays, and will host the Moncton Chargers this week at 1 p.m.
