Defeat Moncton Blue Bombers 30-6
MONCTON, N.B. – The Summerside Cox and Palmer Atom Spartans won their second straight road win in the Moncton Minor Football Association on Wednesday night.
The Spartans, who opened the regular season with a 30-0 win over the Amherst Wolfpack on Sunday afternoon, posted a 30- 6 win over the Moncton Blue Bombers.
The Spartans opened the scoring against Moncton on a 50-yard drive on their first possession, capped by a 15-yard touchdown run by quarterback Charlie DesRoches.
The Spartans’ defence recovered a Moncton fumble, and the Summerside offence capitalized with a five-yard touchdown pass from Charlie DesRoches to Charlie Turner for a 16-point lead. Kicker Parker Gallant converted the kick for an extra two points on the first two majors.
The Spartans scored again before the end of the half, when fullback Parker Williams scored on a fourth-down seven-yard run with only 12 seconds left to go before halftime, giving the Spartans a 22-0 lead.
The Blue Bombers didn't roll over as they scored on their opening drive of the second half, set up by a 50-yard passing play and cut the lead to 22-6.
Summerside’s defence shut the door the rest of the game, highlighted with two interceptions by defensive back Max Chisholm.
The Spartans sealed the win on a fourth-down 10-yard reverse run touchdown by wide receiver Charlie Turner.
The Spartans’ next game is in Moncton against the Dieppe Tiger-Cats on Sunday at 1 p.m. After Sunday’s game, the Spartans will be home the next three weeks.
