Capitals squash last-place team

HALIFAX, N.S. - The Summerside Western Capitals trounced their Halifax opponents when they traveled to the Nova Scotia capital last night. The P.E.I. team defeated the Lions 9-2.
The Lions sit in last place in team standings in the Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League.
The Caps jumped ahead with three unanswered goals in the first period.
Fulfilling their roles, the assistant captain and captain led their team in scoring. Assistant captain Steven Brasil and captain Trevor Carmichael (2-1) netted two apiece.

The Lions tried to rally in the second period scoring twice but the Capitals scored another three goals in the second. The Lions were swept away in the third as the Caps added another three in the final stanza.
Robert McEwan (1-3), Neil Sherren (1-2), Will Johnston (1-1), Nathan DesRoches (1-1) and Matt Myers rounded out the rest of the scoring for Summerside.
Also helping out were Chad Earle, Jason Cameron and Harrison McIver who had two assists each. Cole MacMillan and Spencer MacDonald recorded assists as well.
Stuart Lenehan and Brad MacDonald scored Halifax's two goals with John MacDonald and Jordan Thomas assisting.
The rough match resulted in four major penalties for fighting issued equally to both teams.
Paul Dorsey was in nets for the Capitals to record the win, stopping 53 of 55 shots on net. Kody Blois was between the pipes for the Lions for most of the game. He stopped 30 of 37 shots fired his way. Ben Clarke stepped in with just over nine minutes left in the game and he let in two more goals on eight shots on net.
The Halifax Forum had 267 fans watching the game.
