Final two men’s playoff berths to be decided Friday night

McEwen, Gushue earn byes to semifinals

SUMMERSIDE – Four of the six men’s playoff berths at the 2014 Players’ Championship have been determined.

The final two will be decided in Friday night’s final round-robin draw at 8:30 p.m. The winners of the John Edin-vs.-John Epping and Brad Jacobs-vs.-Jeff Stoughton games will advance to Saturday’s quarter-finals at 5 p.m.

Mike McEwen defeated Jacobs 7-6 in Friday’s 4:30 p.m. draw to complete the round robin undefeated at 5-0 (won-lost) to earn one of two byes into the semifinals on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

Brad Gushue, who is 4-1, also advances directed to the semifinals.

Kevin Koe, who is also 4-1 but was dropped to third in the tiebreaking formula, will play in one quarter-final.

Kevin Martin also clinched a spot in the quarter-finals, handing Koe his first loss – 5-2.

Also in the late-afternoon draw, Stoughton stayed alive with a 6-2 victory over Sven Michel (0-5).
