The winner of the Crystal Webster-vs.-Stefanie Lawton game at 1 p.m. will earn the a spot in Saturday’s quarter-finals at 1 p.m. That game is being televised live on Rogers Sportsnet.
Silvana Tirinzoni of Switzerland and Margaretha Sigfridsson of Sweden both completed round-robin play at 4-1 (won-lost) to earn byes into Saturday’s semifinals at 8:30 p.m.
Eve Muirhead (4-1), Olympic gold-medallist Jennifer Jones (3-2) and Canadian women’s champion Rachel Homan (3-2) have locked up spots in the quarter-finals. Jones will take on Muirhead while Homan will face the winner of the game between Webster and Lawton.
In Friday morning’s draw, Sigfridsson edged Tirinzoni 6-5; Homan scored three with last-rock advantage in the eighth end to defeat Michele Jaggi 7-5 to remain alive; Heather Nedohin scored two in the final eighth end with the hammer to outscore Muirhead 8-6, and Sherry Middaugh stole five points in a 7-1 win over Jones.
In the lone men’s game, Mike McEwen improved to 4-0 with a 7-4 win over John Epping.
