Teams hit ice for practice at Players’ Championship

SUMMERSIDE – A number of rinks were on the ice practising here at Eastlink Arena on Tuesday afternoon in advance of that evening’s opening draw in the 2014 Players’ Championship.

The Players’ Championship is the final event of the season in the Grand Slam of Curling, and features 12 men and 12 women’s teams. As much as $400,000 is up for grabs.

The opening draw at 7 p.m. will feature five games. On the women’s side, Olympic gold-medallist Jennifer Jones will take on Silvana Tirinzoni, Heather Nedohin will meet Rachel Homan and Eve Muirhead is scheduled to take on Michele Jaggi.

Mike McEwen will meet Sven Michel and Kevin Koe will take on Steve Laycock in men’s action.

Summerside also hosted the Players’ Championship in 2012.
