MacDonald rink wins Montague cashspiel

MONTAGUE – The Rod MacDonald rink defeated Jamie Newson to win the men’s section of the Clarey Consulting Ltd. cashspiel here on Sunday.

MacDonald was leading 4-0 after four ends, and 5-1 after six. The final score was not provided.

Newson beat Tyler Harris while MacDonald defeated Blair Weeks in Sunday morning’s semifinals. All four teams in the championship round are from the Charlottetown Curling Complex.


MacDonald’s teammates are Kevin Champion Mark O’Rourke and Mark Victor. The other members of the runner-up Newson team, coached by Peter Gallant, are Andrew Robinson, Sean Clarey and John Desrosiers.

Ten men’s rinks were in the competition.

The Montague club will be hosting the 10-rink P.E.I. Tankard provincial men’s curling championship from Feb. 5 to 9.

Meanwhile, the June Moyaert rink from the host Montague club went undefeated to win the four-team women’s division.
