CHARLOTTETOWN – The second of three draws for the Future Scotties developmental event for junior curlers who may one day compete in the P.E.I. Scotties was held on Saturday morning.

Kaleigh MacKay and her Montague/Crapaud team beat Cornwall’s Meghan Ching rink 5-1, and Cornwall’s Emily Keen foursome stole a triple in the sixth end in an 8-1 decision over Lauren Moerike from the host Charlottetown Curling Complex. Their final draw takes place Sunday at 10 a.m.
The third and final playoff spot in the Scotties will be determined with Saturday’s 2 p.m. draw as when Kim Dolan takes on Charlottetown clubmate Lisa Jackson. Shirley Berry, who has already secured a semifinal berth, will take on the host club’s Suzanne Birt, who will not advance to the playoffs.
Berry and her rink from Cornwall and the Silver Fox will meet the winner of the Dolan/Jackson game in Saturday’s semifinal at 7 p.m. The winner will face unbeaten Kathy O’Rourke in Sunday’s 2 p.m. final.
The P.E.I. Scotties champion will advance to the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the Maurice Richard Arena, Montreal, Que., from , Feb. 1 to 9.
