O’Rourke, Berry off to 2-0 starts

CHARLOTTETOWN – The Kathy O’Rourke and Shirley Berry rinks are off to 2-0 (won-lost) starts after two draws of the 2014 P.E.I. Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the Charlottetown Curling Complex

After O’Rourke defeated defending-champion Suzanne Birt 8-6 in an extra end on Thursday afternoon, the Summerside native doubled Kim Dolan 8-4 in the evening draw. Dolan fell to 0-2.

Berry outlasted Lisa Jackson 8-5 on Thursday night. It was Jackson’s first game of the P.E.I. women’s curling championship.

Berry, whose rink is from the Cornwall Curling Club and Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside, pulled out a 7-6 extra-end win over Dolan in Draw 1.

Birt, who had the evening bye, Dolan, Jackson and O’Rourke all curl out of Charlottetown.

Round-robin action continues on Friday at 2 p.m., with O’Rourke taking on Jackson and Birt facing Dolan. At 7 p.m., it will be Birt meeting Jackson and Berry and O’Rourke doing battle.

The winning rink will represent P.E.I. at the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Montreal, Que., from Feb. 1 to 9.
