Island Petroleum cashspiel attracts 20 teams

Championship game scheduled for Sunday

SUMMERSIDE – The Island Petroleum cashspiel will be front and centre here at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club this weekend.

A total of 14 men’s teams and six women’s rinks from P.E.I., New Brunswick and Nova Scotia are vying for $3,400 in cash prizes.

The men start things off on Friday 3:30 p.m., with the Bryan MacPherson, Don Clarey, Ted MacFadyen, Blair Jay, Leo Stewart, Bill Hope, Rod MacDonald, Marc LeClair, Louis Walsh, Jon Holmes, Clair Sweet and Kevin Ellsworth teams curling at this time. The Reid Romkey and Charles DeBay rinks have an opening-round bye, and will play their first game at 8:30.

All the women’s entries – Gail Greene, Shannon Padlock, Shirley Berry, Nancy Godkin, Jennifer Scott and Vanessa Hamming – will take to the ice at 6 p.m.

Play will continue all day Saturday, with the semifinals on Sunday at 10 a.m., and the championship games scheduled for 2 p.m.
