In World Curling Tour event in Ontario
KEMPTVILLE, Ont. – The Suzanne Birt rink from the Charlottetown Curling Complex has advanced to Sunday afternoon's semifinals of the Royal LePage OVCA Women’s Fall Classic World Curling Tour cashspiel.
Birt, third stone Shelly Bradley, second stone Michelle McQuaid and lead Susan McInnis defeated the Brit O’Neil foursome from Ottawa 7-2 in Sunday morning’s quarter-finals. Birt, a Summerside native, scored a triple in the sixth end, and stole a single point in the seventh.
The P.E.I. rink will face Montreal’s Eve Belisle team at 1:30 p.m., Atlantic time. The other semifinal matchup has Darcy Robertson of Winnipeg taking on Nina Spatola of Madison, Wis.
The championship game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., Atlantic time.
The winning rink will go home with $5,000, with $2,600 going to the runner-up. The third- and fourth-place rinks will receive $1,700 each, with the quarter-final losers getting $1,000 per team.
