Canada West up by one after 20 minutes

SUMMERSIDE -- Canada West leads Canada East 2-1 after the first period of Friday night's semifinal game at the 2009 World Junior 'A' Hockey Challenge.

Mathew Bodie gave Canada West a 1-0 lead during a two-man power play at 8:11. Jeff Vanderlugt tied the game at 18:21, but Wes McLeod restored Canada West's lead at 19:07.

After Canada East recorded the first six shots of the period, Canada West recorded 12 of the next 14 shots to take a 12-8 advantage into the first intermission.

Goaltenders are Sean Bonar of Canada West and Matt Ginn of Canada East.

The winner will play the United States in the gold-medal game Sunday at 5 p.m.
