VAUGHAN, Ont. – It was mission accomplished for the Summerside Chevys in round-robin play of the Baseball Canada national bantam championship.
The Chevys went into the 15-under tournament with a realistic goal of going 3-2 in their pool, and Saturday afternoon’s 5-4 win over Saskatchewan gave them that exact record. The Chevys are scheduled to play a placing game against Manitoba (2-3) on Sunday.
The Chevys jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, and led 5-2 after three innings.
Ben Christopher, Kallum Muirhead and Logan MacDougall all had two hits for the Chevys.
Muirhead worked six innings to earn the win, giving up four runs (three earned), six hits, four walks and he struck out four. Karson Myers gave up two hits and struck out the side in the top of the seventh to earn the save.
