Peewee AAA Chevys clinch first place

CHARLOTTETOWN – The Summerside Chevys closed out the regular season by defeating the Charlottetown Royals in a first-place showdown on Tuesday night.

The visiting Chevys outlasted the Royals 12-7 to complete the P.E.I. Peewee AAA Baseball League regular season with a 13-1 (won-lost) record. The Royals, meanwhile, were one game back at 12-2.

At City Diamond, Bennett MacArthur went 3-for-3, including two doubles, and drove in a run to ignite Summerside’s offence. Dylan Thomas and Ben MacDougall both batted 2-for-4.

Mariah Crowley (3-3), Jaron Rashed (2-3) and Tessa Hood (2-3) were the top hitters for Charlottetown.

Thomas earned the pitching victory, with relief help from Nic Gunning. Matt Jabour was tagged with the loss.

The Chevys will host the provincial championship tournament at Queen Elizabeth Park from Aug. 22 to 24, and the Royals are the host team for the Baseball Canada Atlantic peewee AAA championship from Sept. 4 to 7.
