Kensington native allows one hit in four innings on the mound, collects two hits of his own

The Prince Edward Island Youth Selects opened the Canada Cup in Saskatoon with an 11-1 victory Wednesday over Newfoundland and Labrador.

Kensington's Kyle Pinksen threw 4 1/3 innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts. Brett Hicken finished up, surrendering a run in 1 2/3 innings.

P.E.I. pounded out 12 hits, led by Jed Noonan’s three hits, two stolen bases and three runs scored. Darcy Affleck, Jayden Maclean and Pinksen all added two hits.

The Island squad will play New Brunswick at 11:30 a.m. and Manitoba at 8:30 p.m. ADT on Thursday.
