Peewee Cougars hand Chevys first loss of season

SUMMERSIDE – The Cornwall Cougars handed the Summerside Chevys their first loss of the 2014 P.E.I. Peewee AAA Baseball League regular season.

The Cougars pulled out an 11-10 road victory in 10 innings at Queen Elizabeth Park’s Gordie Arsenault Field on Monday night.

The Chevys fought back from a 6-1 deficit to tie the game in the fourth inning, and the score was tied 8-8 through nine innings.

Nathan Mahar, who also chipped in with two hits, picked up the pitching win over Marcus Gauthier. Nic Havenga led the Cougars with three hits.

Bennett MacArthur (3-4, walk) and Dylan Thomas (2-2, two walks) paced the Chevys.

Summerside will play in Tignish on Wednesday before joining Cornwall and many of the Island's top teams in the Sherwood tournament starting Friday.
