SABA hosting 10-team tournament in Summerside and Freetown

SUMMERSIDE – It’s a big upcoming weekend for midget baseball in the Summerside area.

Ten teams from throughout the Maritimes will compete in a three-day tournament, hosted by the Summerside Area Baseball Association(SABA). Games will be played at Queen Elizabeth Park’s Legends Field in Summerside and Kowalski Field in Freetown.

The tournament field includes four Prince County teams – Summerside Team One, Summerside Team Two, Bedeque and Kensington, the first-place team in the P.E.I. Midget Baseball League.

Play begins on Friday at 3 p.m., and continues throughout the weekend. Each team will play three round-robin games, with the top four advancing to the semifinals on Sunday at 9 and 11:30 a.m. The championship game follows at 2 p.m. All playoff games will take place at Legends Field.

Friday, Aug. 1

At Summerside

(Legends Field, QEP):

3 p.m. – Northside vs. Metro Team Two (Moncton area).

5:30 p.m. – Summerside Team Two vs. Cardigan.

8 p.m. – Summerside Team One vs. Hampton.

At Freetown

(Kowalski Field):

3 p.m. – Kensington vs. Metro Team One.

5:30 p.m. – Bedeque vs. Amherst.

Saturday, Aug. 2

At Legends Field:

8 a.m. – Amherst vs. Metro Team One.

10:30 a.m. – Summerside Team Two vs. Metro Team Two.

1 p.m. – Summerside Team One vs. Cardigan.

3:30 p.m. – Summerside Team Two vs. Hampton.

6 p.m. – Kensington vs. Cardigan.

8:30 p.m. – Summerside Team One vs. Metro Team Two.

At Kowalski Field:

9:30 a.m. – Bedeque vs. Hampton.

Noon – Northside vs. Metro Team One.

2:30 p.m. – Bedeque vs. Kensington.

5 p.m. – Northside vs. Amherst.

Sunday, Aug. 3

At Legends Field:

9 a.m. – Semifinal: first-place team vs. fourth-place team.

11:30 a.m. – Semifinal: second-place team vs. third-place team.

2 p.m. – Championship game.
