P.E.I. junior team splits games at QEP

SUMMERSIDE – The P.E.I. Carpenter's Union 1338 Juniors split a New Brunswick Junior Baseball League doubleheader with the Metro Mudcats on Thursday night.

The Juniors won first game 5-2 while dropping the second 3-1 at Queen Elizabeth Park’s Legends Field.

P.E.I. travels to Chatham, N.B., for a doubleheader on Saturday, and returns home to host Saint John for a pair of games at the Terry Fox Complex in Cornwall on Sunday at 1 p.m.

P.E.I. 5 Metro 2

Grant Grady’s two-run triple in the fifth inning gave P.E.I. a 3-1 lead. Brady Arsenault plated two insurance runs with a single in the sixth inning, and the Mudcats got one back on Kyle Donahoe’s RBI single in the seventh.

Winning pitcher Tyson Blue fired a complete game, striking out seven batters. Kyle Donovan took the loss.

Arsenault and Grady each had three hits to lead the Juniors, who received a pair of hits from JJ Oram and Brady McQuaid.

Donahoe had three hits for Metro.

Metro 2 P.E.I. 1

In the nightcap, the teams traded single runs in the first inning and Metro went ahead on Chris Marcoux's RBI single in the fourth inning. The Mudcats added an insurance run on Marcoux’s suicide squeeze in the seventh inning.

Sam Lund, who recorded 12 strikeouts, picked up the pitching win over Brady Arsenault, who fanned eight. Each pitcher allowed only four hits while pitching complete games.

Oram had two hits to lead P.E.I. at the plate while Nick MacPhail contributed an RBI double and Tyler Arsenault also doubled.
