For right to advance to Canadian championship

SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Chevys and Sherwood/Cornwall will clash for the right to represent P.E.I. on the national stage.

The two teams will meet in the championship game of the Baseball P.E.I. bantam elimination tournament at Queen Elizabeth Park’s Legends Field on Sunday. The game is expected to start around 1 p.m.

The winning team will represent P.E.I. at the Baseball Canada national bantam championship in Vaughan, Ont., next month.

Three-way tie

The Chevys, Sherwood/Cornwall and Charlottetown Royals finished round-robin play in the five-team tournament at 3-1 (won-lost). Sherwood/Cornwall won the tiebreaker – fewest runs allowed between the three tied teams – to advance directly to the championship game.

That left the Chevys and Royals playing a tiebreaker on Sunday morning. Summerside won that game 5-3.
