Play resumes Saturday morning

SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Prodigy Chevys opened the Summerside Area Baseball Association (SABA) peewee AAA baseball tournament on a winning note Friday evening.

The Chevys built 2-0 and 5-2 leads before manufacturing a run in the top of the eighth inning to pull out an exiting 8-7 win over the Dartmouth Arrows at Queen Elizabeth Park’s Very Important Volunteer Field.

The win evened Summerside’s season record against a strong Dartmouth team. The Arrows handed the Chevys their only loss of the season to date in the Bedford Days tournament earlier this year.

The Chevys went on to win that tournament, defeating Hammonds Plains in the championship game.

Other games

In other tournament games Friday, it was Richmond defeating Cornwall 13-10; Tri-County 9 edging Fredericton 8; Dieppe 11 trimming Sherwood 1, and Halifax 16 topping Charlottetown 6.
