Games at QEP, Kowalski Field

SUMMERSIDE – P.E.I.’s representative for the Baseball Canada national bantam championship will be determined this weekend.

Summerside is hosting P.E.I. bantam AAA baseball elimination tournament this weekend.

A total of five teams – Summerside, Sherwood/Cornwall, West Prince, Cardigan and Charlottetown – will compete for the right to represent P.E.I. in Vaughan, Ont., in August.

Summerside currently sits in first place with a 7-2 (won-lost) record, followed by Sherwood/Cornwall (5-2), Charlottetown (4-3), Cardigan (1-5) and West Prince (1-6).

Summerside has scored a league-high 67 runs while the Sherwood/Cornwall team has given up the fewest runs – 26.

The teams will play a round robin on Friday and Saturday. If necessary, a tiebreaker will be played on Sunday at 10 a.m., followed by a possible championship game at 12:30 p.m. If necessary, the championship game could be played at 3:30 p.m.

Round-robin play begins Friday at noon, with Summerside taking on West Prince in an all-Prince County clash.

Games will be played at Queen Elizabeth Park’s Legends Field and Kowalski Field in Freetown.

Noon – Summerside vs. West Prince.

2:30 p.m. – Sherwood/Cornwall vs. Cardigan.

5 p.m. – Cardigan vs. Summerside.

At Freetown

(Kowalski Field):

2:30 p.m. – West Prince vs. Charlottetown.

5 p.m. – Charlottetown vs. Sherwood/Cornwall.

Saturday, July 12

At Legends Field:

11 a.m. – Summerside vs. Charlottetown.

1:30 p.m. – Charlottetown at Cardigan.

4 p.m. – Sherwood/Cornwall vs. Summerside.

At Freetown:

1:30 p.m. – West Prince vs. Sherwood/Cornwall.

4 p.m. – Cardigan vs. West Prince.

Sunday, July 13

At Legends Field:

10 a.m. – Tiebreaker, if necessary.

12:30 p.m. – Possible championship game.

3:30 p.m. – Championship game, if necessary.
