SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Chevys scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning for an exciting 5-4 walk-off win over the West Prince Mariners on Monday night.
Queen Elizabeth Park’s Gordie Arsenault Field was the site of the well-pitched P.E.I. Peewee AAA Baseball League game.
Summerside starter Marcus Gauthier and West Prince’s starting pitcher Alex McRae were victimized by hard luck and costly errors, and did not figure in the decision. Gauthier struck out five and did not allow any earned runs through four innings. Two errors by the Chevys in the fifth inning proved costly as West Prince rallied to tie the game 4-4.
McRae recorded 10 strikeouts over six innings in holding Summerside’s high-powered offence to only four runs on five hits, a walk and one hit batsman.
Summerside reliever Ben MacDougall struck out 4 Mariners to earn the pitching victory. Jayden Gaudet was the pitcher of record for West Prince.
