P.E.I. Juniors split with Chatham

CORNWALL – The P.E.I. Carpenter's Union 1338 Juniors defeated the Chatham Ironmen 8-4 to split a New Brunswick Junior Baseball League doubleheader here Tuesday.

The Ironmen took the lead on a two-run home run by Mark MacPhee in the first inning. P.E.I. answered back with three runs in the bottom of the inning, keyed by Dylan McQuaid’s two-run single that was followed by Brady Arsenault’s RBI single.

P.E.I. followed it up with another three runs in the second, keyed by McQuaid’s two-run double, and added another two in the fourth.

Tyson Blue was the winning pitcher. He scattered seven hits while striking out eight in the complete-game performance.

McQuaid finished the day 2-for-4 with five RBI while Arsenault went 3-for-4.

Brandon MacKay was tagged with the loss while Nick Leggatt was 2-for-2.


In the opener, the Ironmen scored four runs in the third inning to cruise to an 8-3 victory.

Tyler King pitched the complete game for the win while Arsenault threw six innings for P.E.I. before being relieved by Dylan Beck.

Chatham was led by Nolan Levy’s three hits and a MacPhee home run.

Chasse Gallant went 3-for-4 for the Island team while J.J. Oram was 2-for-4 and Brady McQuaid batted 2-for-3. Dylan McQuaid added a home run.

P.E.I. hosts the Metro Mudcats for a doubleheader at the Terry Fox Complex in Cornwall on Saturday. The first game is set for 1 p.m.
