Against Fredericton, Chatham
CORNWALL – The P.E.I. Carpenter's Union Juniors split a recent doubleheader with the Fredericton Royals in the New Brunswick Junior Baseball League here at the Terry Fox Complex.
P.E.I. lost the opener 10-9 before rebounding for a 7-6 decision in eight innings. It was Fredericton’s first loss of the season.
Tyler Arsenault was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push the winning run across home plate for P.E.I. Brady McQuaid’s pinch-hit single in the bottom of the seventh inning tied the game for P.E.I.
Nathan McInnis earned the pitching win, allowing seven hits and striking out five in the complete-game effort.
Nick MacPhail and Brady Arsenault each had two hits for P.E.I.
Corey Wood, who was tagged with the loss, had three hits for the Royals.
In the opener, Fredericton scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to record the victory.
P.E.I. starter Colin Arsenault went six innings before giving way to MacPhail, who gave up only two hits in Fredericton's big inning.
Tyler Arsenault and Brady Arsenault each had two hits for P.E.I. Wood and Josh MacDonald each recorded two for Fredericton.
Swept in Chatham
The host Chatham Ironmen recently won a pair of games against the Carpenter's Union Juniors. The scores were 9-4 and 4-3 in eight innings.
In Game 1, Brady Arsenault, who was relieved by Brad Power, was the losing pitcher. MacPhail, Brady McQuaid, Dylan McQuaid and Dylan Beck had hits for P.E.I. Winning pitcher was Nick Leggatt, and Dustin MacKay batted 3-for-3 to lead Chatham.
In the nightcap, Tyson Blue pitched a complete game for P.E.I., scattering five hits. Dylan McQuaid, Beck and McInnis each recorded two hits while Nick MacPhail homered to open the scoring in the second inning.
Brent Francis recorded the win in relief of Justin Moran.
Leggatt and Nolan Levy registered two hits apiece for Chatham, and David MacIsaac's home run tied the game in the sixth.
P.E.I. visits the Moncton Metro Mudcats for two games on Saturday.
