Blue Jackets edge Crusaders in opener

FREETOWN – The Bedeque Blue Jackets opened the 2014 P.E.I. Midget Baseball League regular season on a winning note Thursday night.

The Blue Jackets edged the Kensington Crusaders on a chilly evening at Kowalski Field.

Brady VanderVelden earned the pitching win, working five complete innings and striking out 13 batters. Logan Robinson relieved VanderVelden in the top of the sixth inning.

Matthew Crozier took the loss, and he received relief help from Alex Kelly and Dylan Montgomery.

Robinson (1-1, RBI single) was Bedeque’s top batter while Montgomery (double), Tyler MacAusland and Parker Ronahan all had 2-for-3 summaries for the Crusaders.

The Blue Jackets’ next home game at Kowalski Field is against Cornwall on Thursday, May 29. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
