SUMMERSIDE – The Three Oaks Axemen are off to a strong start in the P.E.I. School Athletic Association (PEISAA) pilot baseball project.

The Axemen won their first two games over the weekend, blanking the Kinkora Blazers 10-0 in five innings on Friday evening, and outscoring the Montague Vikings 9-5 on Saturday afternoon.
The pilot project will consist of a two-week schedule in which each team will play five games. No championship will be determined.
The project will be evaluated after this year’s event, and the PEISAA will then determine whether to offer full scheduling next year.
The next games as part of the pilot project are this weekend. Three Oaks plays at Queen Elizabeth Park’s Legends Field on Friday at 5:30 p.m., and Saturday at 10 a.m., and 3 p.m.
Axemen 10 Blazers 0
At Legends Field, Matt Barlow fired a one-hitter while striking out 11 batters and issuing any walks.
Jayden MacLean (1-2, two runs batted in), Ryan Blanchard (1-2, RBI), Max Morrison (1-2, RBI), Barlow (1-3, two RBI) and Zack Mallett (1-3, two RBI) were Three Oaks’ top hitters.
Brady Vandervelden was tagged with the loss, and Sam Jay also worked from the hill for Kinkora.
Vandervelden’s 1-for-1 batting summary led the Blazers.
Axemen 9 Vikings 5
At Memorial Field in Charlottetown, three Axemen – Chasse Gallant (2-3, two RBI), Parker Harvey (2-2, RBI) and Sam Cameron (2-4) all had multiple-hit performances. Ryan Blanchard (1-2) also was a key contributor at the plate, driving in three runs.
Cameron Gillis (1-3) and Colin McIntyre (1-4, two RBI) sparked Montague’s offence.
Harvey earned the pitching win. Cameron and MacLean also pitched for Three Oaks while Brett Hicken was the pitcher of record for Montague.
