Just A Professor records fastest mile
SUMMERSIDE – It was a big day for Just A Professor, Carrera Angel and Jason Hughes at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway on Monday afternoon.

Just A Professor recorded the fastest mile of Monday afternoon’s 13-dash Labour Day harness racing program at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway. Time of the mile was 1:56.4.
Just A Professor recorded the fastest mile in the finale of the 13-dash Labour Day harness racing program in 1:56.4 after fractions of 29.1 seconds, 58.2 and 1:27.2.
Carrera Angel, under the command of owner-driver Rocky Schurman, converted a pocket ride into a winning score in the Labour Day Pace. Time of the mile was 1:57.2.
Leaving from Post 5, Schurman placed the nine-year-old gelding behind Capitalism (Hughes) and stalked the leader through splits of 28.3, 59.1 and 1:27.4, before overpowering the favourite in the stretch for the victory.
Keystone Nobility (Corey MacPherson) was third. The 5-4-2 triactor paid $396.80.
Hughes had a big day at the office recording four driving wins. The Stratford native opened the afternoon with three-year-old filly Woodmere Trulyblue from the Blaine McKenna stable, and then paraded Brianna Angel and Casimir Lucuano to Victory Lane. Hughes completed the grand slam with Beckenbauer in 1:58.2.
Song Dream captured the trot feature defeating Scarlet Patti by a neck in 2:04. Brian MacPhee did the driving for owner Mark Ramsey, Greenwood, N.S., and trainer Vaughn Doyle of Charlottetown.
Other winners on the card were:
Sandhill Star (2:02.4 – a maiden record), Hopedale Paris (2:03.3), Goodmorningmister (2:00.1 – new race-win record), Alcars Spud Baran (2:00), Southfield Sophie (1:59.2) and Mr. Pogge (2:00.1).
The total live wager was $19,137.
