UPDATED: Suicide Shift sets SRW record for two-year-old trotting colts

SUMMERSIDE – Suicide Shift set a new track record at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway for two-year-old trotting colts on Wednesday night.

Time of the mile in the $5,800 Lady Slipper Stake event was 2:04.1.

Suicide Shift was in the lead at the half and led the three-quarters mark and down the stretch to the wire.

Fractions were 30.4, 1:02 and 1:33.3. Wait For Me placed while Tyne Valley finished in the show position. Co-owner Steven Shepherd of Stratford was the in the bike for the record-setting mile.

Margo Fisher of Fredericton, N.B., and trainer Harold Shepherd of Charlottetown also co-own Suicide Shift.


It was a stakes-highlighted card for two- and three-year-old trotting colts and fillies.

In the $5,800 Lady Slipper Stakes for two-year-old trotters, Windemere Ty (2:05.4) and Paymenowpaymelater (2:05.4) were the winners.

In the $8,200 Lady Slippers Stakes for three-year-old trotters, B J Comanche (2:03.2) and Dusty Lane Galaxy (2:02.3) made trips to the winner’s circle.


Dead heat

There was a dead heat between two West Prince-owned horses in a $900 pace in Race 4 as Duchess Killean and R Es Nancy both hit the wire at the same time in 1:59.4.

Jason Hughes drove Duchess Killean, a four-year-old bay mare, for owner Jansen Sweet of O’Leary while Marc Campbell was in the sulky of R Es Nancy, owned by Donald Sweet of O’Leary and Dana Sweet of Bloomfield Station.


Other winners

Other winners on the 13-dash card were:

Sea Queen (2:03), It’s Handsome Hank (2:01.4), Sendmeasign (1:58.4), Paradise Rose (2:01.2), Nobestbfor (1:58.2), and Life Savior (1:57.2 – the fastest mile of the program).

Corey MacPherson drove Life Savior for owner Darla MacEachern of Kensington.

The total live wager was $14,819.

Live racing returns to Summerside Raceway with the annual Labour Day program on Monday, Sept. 1. Post time is set for 1 p.m.
