O’LEARY -- Team Canada outfielder Jeff Ellsworth has invited fellow members of Canada’s national men’s softball team to his home ballfield, and 22 of them have accepted the invitation.
National team members were coming to P.E.I. anyway, to play for their respective provincial teams in the Canadian Senior Men’s Nationals which will be held in Charlottetown from Tuesday, August 26 to Sunday, August 31.
Ellsworth, who is recreation director in O’Leary talked them into arriving a day early and getting together for an exhibition game against the Summerside Chrysler Dodge Eagles on Ellis Field in O’Leary. The game is set for Monday, August 25 at 6:30 p.m.

“I’m very excited for that one,” said Ellsworth of the opportunity to showcase the national team on his home field and to promote the sport of softball in the area. Players are attending from BC, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. “It’s the best of the best,” Ellsworth said. “It’s going to be quite the game.”
