Ravens split games Saturday

BRAMPTON, Ont. – The P.E.I. Re/Max Ravens split two placement-round games here at the 2014 Softball Canada national under-16 championship on Saturday.

The Ravens, who went 0-4 (won-lost) in the round robin, lost 14-5 to the Calgary Adrenaline 98 and rebounded to defeat the Moncton Rebels 5-1.

P.E.I. got off to a strong start, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. However, Calgary erupted for 12 runs over the final three innings.

Losing pitcher Allee Ryan and Brianna Arsenault each drove in two runs for the Ravens, who also received single hits from Jada Yeo, Emily Brothers, Ashley MacBain, Sarah Murphy and Vanessa Rennie.

Yeo, who did not issue any walks and finished with nine strikeouts, tossed shutout ball in five innings of work to collect the pitching win. Ryan worked the final two innings.

Brothers (2-3, walk, run scored, RBI), Yeo (2-4, run scored) and Arsenault (1-3, walk) were tops at the plate for the Ravens, who scored three unearned runs.
