MONTREAL – It was a rough start for the Charlottetown Mariners here at the Softball Canada national junior women’s championship on Thursday morning.
The P.E.I. representative dropped a 14-0 decision to Alberta’s Wildcat Warriors. The game was called after 4 ½ innings due to the mercy rule.
Keeley Van Blaricom and Shelby Rowein combined to pitch a no-hitter for the Warriors, who scored five runs in the bottom of the first and nine more in the second frame.
Taylor McGonigal batted a perfect 3-for-3 to lead the Warriors’ 11-hit attack.
Hilary Pineau took the loss.
The Mariners are back on the field at 2 p.m., Atlantic time, taking on the host team in the under-21 tournament.
