The Summerside Heat captured the provincial ladies orthodox championship in Slemon Park on Sunday.
Hustler tossed a one-hitter and struck out three in leading the Heat to an 8-1 win over O’Leary in Sunday’s championship game, which was called in the fifth inning due to the seven-run mercy rule.
Offensively, Katie Hardy went a perfect 3-for-3, including a double, to lead the Heat. Tammy Gallant also had a big game with the bat, going 2-for-3.
Hillary Pineau was tagged with the pitching loss.
In the semifinals, the first-place Heat outscored fourth-place Wellington 9-5 while third-place O’Leary trimmed second-place Tyne Valley 19-0 in three innings.
Karen Gallant, who gave up six hits and finished with eight strikeouts, collected the pitching win for Summerside over Charlene Arsenault.
Gallant also helped her own cause at the plate with a 3-for-4 batting summary, including a double and triple.
Pineau earned the pitching win for O’Leary. Sandra Williams was the pitcher of record for Tyne Valley.

The Heat will move on to the Eastern Canadian ladies orthodox softball championship in O’Leary from Sept. 5 to 7.
