In Atlantic Sires Stakes’ action in Charlottetown

CHARLOTTETOWN – The top two fillies in the Maritimes are set to do battle in the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-olds on Saturday afternoon.

The 12-dash card at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park will feature three A divisions and three B stakes. The action is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.

Elm Grove Inarush comes into the $9,500 A Division having won her last three races, including a track-record performance of 1:55.3 in her last start at Inverness Raceway.

The Seawind Amg-bred filly is owned by a Kensington group of Blaine Thibeau, Gordon MacLeod, Grant Mann and trainer Eddy Doucette. Regular driver Mark Bradley will be in the bike as the filly closes in on $80,000 in career earnings.

Meanwhile, Maritime Breeders champion Lovineveryminute has drawn the outside Post 6 for driver Todd Trites. Bred and co-owned by River Valley Management along with Lana Murphy and Windemere Farms, the Western Paradise - Deliver Me daughter is trained by Earl Watts.

Woodmere Trulyblue, Sail Through, Libertys Gig and Gracious Minnie round out the field.

Last year's two-year-old champion looks to be rounding back into form as a three-year-old. Saulsbrook Alana found her way back to the winner’s circle in Inverness last week, winning in 1:56.4 by seven lengths for owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford.

Kevin MacLean trains the winner of just under $75,000 lifetime. Marc Campbell will pilot 'Alana' from Post 4 in Race 9.

Race 11 is the final division of the Atlantic Sire Stakes’ A events. Post 3 starter Pictonian Sareta will try and get the sire stakes’ monkey off her back.

The Western Paradise - Southview Selena filly has four top-three finishes from four Atlantic Sire Stakes’ starts, and will look to get into the Sire Stakes’ winner’s circle this time around for owner Dan Ross and trainer-driver Mike Stevenson.

Atlantic Sire Stakes’ B action goes in Races 5, 8 and 10. Tarahumara is listed as the favourite in Race 5; Babies Gigolo is the favourite in Race 8 and has drawn post 2, and the 10th-race favourite is J J Mistress.

Two aged trots will go in Races 1 and 3. Glencove Umay has drawn Post 6 in the first race for owner-trainer Carl Bagnall.

Newcomer Rate Exchange will make his Island debut in Race 3. The winner of over $400,000 lifetime is trained by Jonah Moase and Campbell will do the driving.
