P.E.I. Reds beat Manitoba in playoff action

The P.E.I. Scotiabank Reds are heading to the Canadian national under-18 girls fast pitch championship in Saskatoon, Sask. The P.E.I. Scotiabank Reds defeated Manitoba Two 10-2 Thursday in the Co-op Challenge Cup portion of the under-18 girls softball championship in Saskatoon.

The Reds play Alberta Four tonight at 8:30 p.m. ADT and Nova Scotia Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Against Manitoba Two, Emily Cairns and Kailey Koughan each went 3-for-4 while Sarah Woodside hit a two-run home run. Alyssa Fleming was the winning pitcher.

After preliminary play the top 16 teams advanced to the championship cup play with the remaining six teams competing in the challenge cup.

P.E.I. went 1-3 in the preliminary play, including a 7-4 victory Wednesday over Manitoba Two.
