SASKATOON -- After suffering an extra-inning loss to Ontario 4, the Brantford Bobcats in their opening game of the Women’s Under 18 Softball Nationals, the P.E.I ScotiaBank Reds ran out of steam in their second game of the day.
The Reds managed just three hits in a 14-1 loss to the Quebec Rebelles Monday night in a game called after five innings. The middle of the Reds’ batting order, Emily Cairns, Clara Jane Wood and Jacinda Costello accounted for their only hits. Cairns cranked a fourth inning homer for P.E.I.'s lone run.
The Rebelles, who started off the tournament with an 8-1 win over Alberta 1 (Calgary Kaizen 97), struck early against the Reds, jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning. Cairns scored in the fourth.
Jordon Havenga was tagged with the pitching loss, giving up 14 hits and a walk. She had one strikeout.
The Reds have just one game today, against BC2, Delta Heat 96, at 7 p.m. (ADT).
