Fastest aged trotter in history of Summerside Raceway

SUMMERSIDE – Frill Seeker did it again Wednesday night.

The six-year-old bay gelding set his second track record for aged trotters in the month of July at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway.

After establishing a new mark of 1:59.2 during the recent Lobster Festival harness racing meet, Frill Seeker trotted a mile in 1:59.1 during the first division of the inaugural P.E.I. Trotting Series.

“I was a little concerned getting off the gate because he made a break in his last start,” said Frill Seeker driver and trainer Kenny Arsenault. “That was on my mind since the draw came out two days ago.

“Once he came out of the first turn I was very confident in the horse. He showed me wicked speed two weeks ago.”

Frill Seeker, who paid $4 to win, finished one-fifth of a second ahead of Mopey Corey and Lyrical Lindy rounded out the top three.

Frill Seeker cut out fractions of 29.3 seconds, 1:00.1 and 1:30.1.

“He got home in 29 flat, which is a very fast quarter with the rain,” said Arsenault, who recorded four driving wins on the night. “He wasn’t showing big last quarters the last two or three starts.”

The Ebbsfleet Stables of Stratford, Ont., own Frill Seeker, and recently shipped him down to P.E.I.

“He’s a fast trotter and he seems to like it down here,” said Arsenault. “He’s a real nice horse around the barn, and he’ll be here for a little while and we will have some fun with him.”
