Foy will join the Holland College Hurricanes for the 2014-15 Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA) Women’s Volleyball League season.
A graduate of Bluefield High School, Foy led the Halifax-based Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics to back-to-back ACAA championships.
“I’m very excited to be returning home to P.E.I. for school,” said Foy. “I enjoyed every minute of attending MSVU, but this will be a new experience and I can’t wait.”
In 91 career matches with the Mystics, Foy averaged 2.84 kills, 2.74 digs and 3.41 points per game.
Hurricanes head coach Lori-Beth Dwyer is “thrilled” to have Foy join the team.
“She brings a great deal of competitive experience to the team, which we have been lacking, and is sure to be a leader on the court,” said Dwyer. “With the addition of a player of Sydney’s calibre, and along with other key additions to our roster, we will be in a strong position to push for a playoff place this season.”
Based on her past experience, including playing in the last two national championships, Foy is looking forward to taking on a leadership role with the Hurricanes.
“I’ll do my best to bring as much positivity and knowledge to the team as possible,” she said. “Hopefully, that will help us make it to the top four in the league.”
The Hurricanes, who picked up their first ACAA regular-season victory in the program’s history last season, open the ACAA regular-season schedule at home on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m. The Université Sainte-Anne Dragons will provide the opposition at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.
