Chappell records driving triple
CHARLOTTETOWN – Say It Again Sam remained perfect in recording his seventh victory in a row in the Saturday feature at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Time of the mile was 1:56 flat – a new record for the pacer, owned by Foxyhall Racing of Summerside and Wallace, N.S.
Driver Jason Hughes mapped the winning trip, opting to stalk pace-setter R Sonoflife (Michael McGuigan) through fractions of 28.3, 58.4 and 1:27.3, before overtaking the leader to win by 2 1/2 lengths to keep his streak intact.
R Sonoflife faded to second, with another Hughes trainee, Capitalism, finishing third for Kenny Arsenault.
Driver Gary Chappell recorded a hat trick on the 12-dash program. Chappell opened up the card scoring with Shes Machs Delight for owners Bill and Brian Andrew and Tom Mullally. Shelly Hennessey was the winning trainer.
Chappell also drove My Lucky Killean and Sa Summers Luck to victory to record the driving triple and close in on 2,500 career wins in the bike.
JK Queen, with Walter Cheverie in the bike, won the trot feature in 2:01.4, powering up the stretch to win in 2:01.4 for Joe Smallwood of Stratford and Norman Clarey of Charlottetown.
Cheverie also guided The Warden to a 1:59.2 score, marking back-to-back winning performances for trainer Chris MacKay and co-owner Wayne Court of New Glasgow, P.E.I.
