CHARLOTTETOWN – Seven rivals will try to knock off Narragansett in the Thursday night feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

First-race post time for the 12-dash card is 7 p.m.

Trainer Jason Hughes will drive Narragansett for owner Foxyhall Racing of Wallace, N.S. The $2,000 event in Race 11 has Narragansett leaving from Post 4 fresh off a 1:56 victory in Summerside on July 1. That was enough for race analyst Les MacIsaac to give the pacer the nod for top spot.

“(Narragansett) came first up at the half in Summerside, and still left seven rivals in the dust in what just happens to be the fastest win time on the page this year,” MacIsaac said. “Off a performance like that, it will take a big effort from one of his rivals to prevent a repeat.”

Narragansett’s main challenges will come from Post 5 starter Van Zant (Ron Matheson) and Post 6 starter Nobestbfor (Walter Cheverie). Other entries include Pinner (Marc Campbell), Shock The Rock (Corey MacPherson), Panacotta (Blaine Baglole), First Art Down (Ken Murphy) and Windemere Express (Brodie MacPhee).

Trotters

A field of the Island’s top seven trotters will chase a purse of $1,850 in Race 6. Abundaspin is favoured to win after his 2:00.1 victory last Thursday in Charlottetown for trainer-driver Harold Shepherd and owner Mikaela Lustic of Cornwall.

The 14-year-old trotter has Post 4 as he continues his retirement year with six wins to date. He will battle with previous open trot winners Pleasure Girls (MacPherson), Zip The Lip (Brian MacPhee) and Caliban Hanover (Ron Gass) as well as other entries Lyrical Lindy (Hughes), Tymal Tyme (Brodie MacPhee) and Diamond Mine (Willie Murphy).
