HALIFAX – Jared Connaughton continued his preparation for the Commonwealth Games here at the Aileen Meaghar National Track League event on Saturday.
Connaughton’s time of 20.84 seconds placed him third in the 200-metre event behind Gavin Smellie and Segun Makinde.
Connaughton placed sixth in the international section of the 100 metres, with a time of 10.44 as the cool and wet conditions made top performances difficult to achieve.
Walker runs personal best
Michaela Walker from Summerside ran a personal best of 2:16.14 for second in the women’s development section of the 800 metres. This is within a second of the P.E.I. open women’s provincial record.
Her sister Hannah Walker, who now lives and trains in Halifax, was fourth in a personal-best time of 2:19.11.
Bailey Smith finished seventh in the development section of the women’s 100 metres.
The annual Aileen Meagher meet was the opening stop for the National Track League, with similar events slated for Edmonton, Victoria and Vancouver next month.
