CORNWALL – The PEI Carpenter's Union Juniors dropped both ends of a recent doubleheader to the Metro Mudcats.

The Juniors lost the opener 1-0 and dropped a 2-1 decision in eight innings in the May 24 nightcap. The games were played at the Terry Fox Complex in less than ideal conditions.

In the opener, Metro scored the only run in the 6th inning on a throwing error trying to get the runner at home.

Brady Arsenault was the hard-luck losing pitcher, allowing only two hits and collecting 11 strikeouts over six innings while giving up two walks. Tyson Blue pitched a scoreless 7th inning giving up a hit and striking two out.

Nick MacPhail and Dylan McQuaid had back-to-back hits in the first but they could not get another hit off Metro lefty Sam Lund who pitched a complete game striking out 10

and giving up two walks.

In the second game, the Carpenter's Union Juniors grabbed the lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Brady McQuaid had a two-out single, stole a base and came home on a solid single by Nick MacPhail.

Metro tied the game with an unearned run with two outs in the seventh and went ahead in the eight. P.E.I. got its leadoff man on, but could not advance him any further.

McQuaid also doubled for a two-hit game, while other hits came from Dylan McQuaid and affiliat player Logan Gallant. Colin Arsenault allowed one hit over five innings, striking out two and walking two.

Nathan McInnis finished up allowing four hits and recording three strikeouts. Kyle Donovan pitched seven innings for the win striking out four and allowing only one walk. Alex Embree pitched the eight for the save.
