SUMMERSIDE – The Avon View Avalanche ended any hopes the host Three Oaks Axewomen had of repeating as David Voye Memorial rugby tournament champions.
The Avalanche, who is from Windsor, N.S., edged the Axewomen 7-5 in one of two girls’ semifinal games on Saturday morning. North Nova from New Glasgow, N.S., defeated Cobequid Education Centre from Truro, N.S., by an identical score in the other semifinal.
Jaclyn Silver (try) and Katie Giles (convert) accounted for Avon View’s offence. Taran Price had a try for Three Oaks, which finished tournament play 1-1 (won-lost).
With 11 girls’ teams entered, Three Oaks and Northumberland made up Pool A while the other nine teams were divided into a trio of three-team pools.
The Axewomen defeated Northumberland 34-0 in Friday’s round-robin game.
Tori MacCaul scored North Nova’s try, which was converted by Caroline Straub. Clare Matheson answered with a try for Cobequid.
The Westisle Wolverines, the other Prince County team entered, lost their cross-over game 17-0 to Horton High from Wolfville, N.S., on Saturday morning. Westisle finished 0-3.
