At 18th Annual David Voye Memorial rugby tournament

SUMMERSIDE – The Westisle boys evened their record at 1-1 (won-lost) in the 18th annual David Voye Memorial rugby tournament on Friday afternoon.

The Wolverines outlasted Northumberland from Alma, N.S., by a 20-14 score. It was the first game of the tournament for Northumberland, which faces the host Three Oaks Axemen (1-0) on Friday at 5 p.m.

Elliot Watters scored a try and a pair of drop goals to lead the Wolverines. A drop goal is counted when the ball is kicked over the cross bar between the uprights. Ryan Sutherland chipped in with a try while Brandon Millar and Parker Butler each had converts.

Ryan Cook and Colin Chislet counted trys for Northumberland, which received converts from James MacKazie and Ryan Pellerin.

Three Oaks Senior High School is hosting the 23-team senior AAA-calibre tournament, which features 12 boys and 11 girls’ teams.

The Three Oaks girls also play Northumberland at 5 p.m.
