SUMMERSIDE – Despite finishing second in round-robin play, the Charlottetown Aces marched on to win the Volleyball P.E.I. 16-Under/18-Under Men’s Spring League tournament here at Three Oaks Senior High School on Wednesday.

The Aces defeated the West Prince Islanders 26-21 in a timed set in the championship match.

The Hampshire Heat, for the third time this season, finished third after defeating the Montague Magic 32-19. Rounding out the placement in fifth was the mixed team called the Highlanders (three Heat players and three Islanders), and the Summerside Slammers were in sixth place.

“It is really impressive to see how everyone has gotten better over the past few weeks,” commented Slammers head coach Andrew MacDougald. “(It’s) great to see guys going out and having fun and improving set to set.”

Weekly play will finish at Montague High School on Wednesday, with games starting at 5:30 p.m. The league will wrap up with the provincials being played at Holland College on May 3.
