For Special Olympics powerlifting team
SUMMERSIDE – A fundraising bench press competition for the Special Olympics BullDog powerlifting team will be held at the Summerside Boys and Girls Club on Saturday.
The competition, which will get underway at noon, will include five categories – junior, women’s, Special Olympics, men 185-plus and men 185-minus. It’s a touch-and-go style competition, where lifters will have three chances to achieve their maximum lift.
The goal is to help raise money for more equipment and create an opportunity for lifters to come together and participate in a fun event for a good cause.
“It will also be great for our Special Olympics athletes to see first hand some of the best lifters on P.E.I. and Canada,” noted a media release.
Current Canadian champion John MacDonald will be a special guest during the competition. MacDonald, who is a 13-time national champion, has broke more than 50 records and also won two North American championships.
The cost is $20 per lifter and there will be a $5 admission fee, with children under-12 being admitted free of charge.
